ALICIA BAILEY

My work is created from lifelong familiarity and deep connection with the American West. Although much of what is valued about this terrain comes from commerce and misuse of resources, I choose to engage with what exists outside the realms of resource extraction and industry. My goals involve sharing a sense of wonder, evoking curiosity and showing viewers that moving slowly and with quietude through this terrain can induce a desirable state of mind. I find that book works, which are by nature intimate and interactive, meet my goals. Artist Bio Studio artist/gallerist Alicia Bailey is owner/director of Abecedarian Artists Books in Denver, Colorado. Alicia acts as an independent curator/juror, instructor/mentor and regional events coordinator in the book arts. In her studio work, she has focused on book and box arts since the mid-nineties, producing box and artists’ book works. Her work has been featured in dozens of solo and group exhibits internationally and is held in numerous public, private and special collections worldwide. An archive of her work is under development at University of Denver Penrose Library Special Collections.
