In my new work I set out to achieve texture in 3-dimensions using fragments and cast-offs I find in the world — stone, paint, bark, beaver chips, old canvas, shards and more.
I love the textures and forms that spring from these old materials, and although my work may look slightly unruly it is really rather deliberate. I have been doing what I have wanted to do for a long time — creating work that is not flat, a kind of relief as it were. For me, these works were fun and sometimes maddening to create, and always heartfelt.
