JENNIFER EVANS
I am a textile and paper collage artist exploring themes of identity and the human need for connection. Inspired by cultural traditions, stories, crafts and feminist ideas, my work examines the complexities of identity, particularly women’s roles across cultures and histories. As the artist Luchita Hurtado said, “Everything in this world, I find I’m related to,” a belief that shapes my practice. Central to my work is the Blue Women Series, begun in 2021, with nearly 200 collages depicting women in various emotional states. These collages tell stories, inviting reflection on our roles and identities. My textile collages, or art quilts, extend this exploration. Using fabric and found objects, they are rich with memory, often celebrating the strength, resilience and labor of women’s lives. I believe art can inspire empathy and change. In a world often limited by a failure of imagination, art helps envision new possibilities. Through my work, I aim to connect with others, highlight shared humanity; creating art that fosters understanding, transformation, and hope. email: [email protected] website: http://www.thefolkloremajor.com instagram: http://www.instagram.com//denverjennifer |
