Statement
Plants are pretty great. On a very basic level, they inhale carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen so we can breathe and exist on earth. Plants also feed, clothe, house, medicate and protect us without asking a thing in return.
Plants adapt to serve their biological imperative: survival. Lucky for us, plants evolve in remarkable colors and textures and patterns and forms and it seems the least we can do is look a little closer. These small landcapes explore the surfaces of ordinary plants from the desert, forest, tropics and our own backyards.
Having trained in the centuries-old
tradition of botanical illustration, portraying plants
with scientific accuracy and detail is a perfect starting
point for my work. From there I like to push past
tradition toward a fresh point of view.
