Artist Statement
My paintings reflect images from my dreams, objects
of personal significance, childhood and current memories,
and observations from my immediate environment. I use
gouache because of its flat bold color and overall pattern
that has been influenced in part by Mexican Art and
Aboriginal dreamings. The image of the heart has become
more prevalent in my recent work because of its rich
symbolism. I have recently included borders, which repeat
imagery connected to the larger part of the painting.
The articles of clothing are significant to my family
and to my past. My compositions are generally unplanned
and the images mixed, creating a stream-of-consciousness
quality to the work. |
